Pioneering Leader in Gender Equality, Climate Action & Energy Transitions
Expanding dignity and opportunity for women and girls across Latin America and beyond
Sandra is a pioneering leader at the intersection of gender equality, climate action, and energy transitions in Latin America. With over 17 years of experience in international development, her field-defining ideas made gender a core pillar of Mexico's energy sector.
As the founder of REDMEREE (the Mexican Network of Women in Energy) and CEO of Gendergy, she has empowered thousands of women and advised governments and international organizations on gender-responsive policy. She created the country's first gender-energy frameworks, including the Gender Roadmap, the first mentoring program for women in energy, and the sector-wide Manifesto for Equality, which catalyzed a decade-long shift in the country.
Sandra also led a one-of-a-kind program on women and youth in energy with SEforALL. She represented Mexico in the IPCC Gender Group and has contributed to development projects funded by Canada, France, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Germany. She has worked with globally recognized organizations such as GIZ, UNDP, IADB, OAS, SEGIB, GGGI, and others.
She holds a Master's degree in Human Development from FLACSO Argentina and has completed postgraduate studies at Harvard Kennedy School, the London School of Economics, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and UNAM. Sandra has lectured over 200 times, training hundreds of practitioners across the region. Her work has been featured in Forbes, Deutsche Welle, and leading Mexican newspapers.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sandra co-leads Global Impact Girls with her daughter, an intergenerational initiative inspiring young women to become leaders in sustainability and climate action. She also founded the Soleil Scholarship, supporting women pursuing master's degrees in energy and breaking financial barriers to create opportunities.
